U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Workshop on Relationships for Injured/Wounded Veterans
and their Partners:  "Love After War"

This workshop is for clinicians, peer support, advocates, veterans,

active service members, and their partners. 
The workshop is free, but RSVP is required.

"Love After War" is a documentary film about those who are winning
the battle for love despite PTSD, TBI, SCI, blindness, loss of hearing,
burns, multiple limb loss, and genital injury. The presenter will share
the background of this film, highlight the intersection of psychological
health issues and the foundations of intimacy, show selected excerpts
of the film, lead a discussion, and present an overview of
the Sexual Rehabilitation Framework.

"What Should We Do About the Opioid Epidemic?"

Drug abuse has taken a sharp and lethal turn with the rise of opioids -

both legal pain killers and illegal ones. In 2015 and 2016, there were
299 deaths in the City of Austin that were attributed to drug overdose,
and 191 of those deaths were opioid-related.

Join an upcoming Community Dialogue to explore what we should do

to reduce the opioid crisis facing our communities. 
These events are free and open to the public.

Austin Area Opioid Work Group

The Opioid Work Group's mission will be to bring together
the recovery community to identify gaps in service, best practices,
needed and existing resources, and whatever else the group sees fit
to assist the population that has history or presently suffers
from opioid dependency.  This group will welcome and include
those that work with Medically Assisted Recovery Services as well
as the Harm Reduction community.  Please come share your experience
and your questions with us. 

This Work Group meets monthly on the third Thursday of the month.

Austin Recovery Family Support Group

Austin Recovery offers a one hour weekly Family Support Group to assist
family members in their own process of healing.  It is not necessary
for a loved one to be in treatment at Austin Recovery
to participate in the family support group.

Goals of the program include:
*Help each member of a client's family acquire knowledge
about chemical dependency issues
*Gain understanding of how he/she has been personally affected
by this disease
*Learn new skills to cope with the dysfunction
created by addiction
*Develop support with other families in the same/similar situations

for persons living with a mental health or substance use concern

Integral Care

...is now offering weekly Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) classes in
Austin and Georgetown.

MHFA is a one-day training that teaches people how to help

someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis
or is showing signs of mental illness or
substance use disorder. Thanks to a grant from the

St. David’s Foundation, no one will be turned away.
 However, a donation of $10 is welcome.
